What is the difference between conventional and organic cotton?

Mondays products are made with organic cotton.

It is important to understand there is a huge difference between conventional and organic cotton, in the way it is farmed, processed and the working conditions for everyone in the supply chain.

Cotton is the world’s most heavily sprayed crop. 15% of the world's pesticide use is used on cotton crop, although cotton uses only 2% of the world's agricultural space. These pesticides contaminate water ways and leave traces in the cotton.

Organic means NO GM farming and no toxic pesticides sprayed on the cotton.

Where are Mondays products manufactured?

All Mondays periods products are manufactured in Europe. It is important to us that we support our local manufacturing industry. We also work hard to ensure our transport emissions are as low as possible by keeping manufacturing and logistics close to where our clients are based.

Organic cotton is not grown in Europe but all our cotton come from GOTS certified farmers. This means that from seed to product, the cotton along the whole supply chain is grown, handled and transported following the strict GOTs environmental and social guidelines.

Do Mondays products contain plastic?

Mondays products do not contain any fossil-fuel based (also known as petroleum-based) plastics.

Most conventional pads contain plastics like polypropylene and super absorbent polymers (SAPs). These materials are cheap, effective and they’re harmful to the planet and our health.

Mondays pads and panty liners are backed with a compostable plant-based plastic made from renewable materials.

Do Mondays products contain Super Absorbent Polymers (SAPs) like nappies?

Mondays products do not contain super-absorbent polymers (SAPs).

Super-absorbent material (made from fossil-fuel) is used to prevent leakages and absorb moisture. They are commonly found in pads and nappies sold in supermarkets. These materials are very cheap, highly effective and they’re harmful to the planet and our health.

Mondays pads are made from only sustainable natural materials, which are biodegradable unlike SAPs.

Do Mondays products contain heavy metals?

We share our consumers concerns for the discovery of heavy metals found in some brands of tampons.

It’s a founding principle of Mondays, since 2019, to make organic cotton tampons to help reduce unnecessary exposure of our bodies to harmful chemicals. To guarantee the safety and quality of our tampons, we’re certified to the Global Organic Textiles Standard (GOTS) – the gold standard for tampons made of cotton.

As part of our annual organic certification audit, we need to provide test results from random regular tests for detecting harmful chemicals by third-party accredited laboratories.

How to insert a Mondays applicator tampon

Here’s our step-by-step guide to inserting your applicator tampons:

  • Wash and dry your hands and ensure you only use one tampon at a time.
  • Unwrap the tampon, pull the cord out and make sure the string is secured to the tampon (pull gently).
  • Twist the cardboard applicator tubes to unlock the mechanism, making it easier to push.
  • Place the top of the tampon at the entrance of your vagina. With your other hand, you may want to open the fold of skin around the vagina.
  • Push up using your longest finger until the applicator sits into one. You should feel the tampon gently glide into your vagina. Aim the applicator upwards and backwards towards the small of the back.
  • If you can still feel the tampon, it needs to be pushed in further. The cord should remain outside the vagina ready for removal.

How to remove a tampon?

To remove your tampon:

  • Wash your hands.
  • Relax your pelvic muscles and gently pull the withdrawal cord downwards and forwards until the tampon is removed.
  • Wrap the tampon in tissue or its wrapper, and discard in waste disposal, septic tank or compost.

Make sure you remove a tampon within 6 (max 8) hours of inserting it.
